Think Tank
Think Tank. Aside from pure, untouched, glorious, beautiful nature to gaze at and absorb with, I love totally impractical, one-chair, minimalist spaces, so empty, so seductive and so peaceful to escape into…
Maybe it’s just one room in the house where you can close the door on the madness to think, regroup, pace, draw, read, strum, make notes, visualize and create a wildly imaginative and exciting future… Undistracted.
Decluttering Tips For Simple Living
It’s a choice!
You can choose to be in charge of your things or allow your things to be in charge of you. When you start out owning too much ‘stuff‘ it becomes a never ending round of buying it, finding places to store it (or not!), buying more of the same stuff or additional bits to add to the stuff. Then the upgrades and new versions of said stuff and the continuing maintenance of the stuff.
Doesn’t it feel like if you are going to have these things, boy, they had better be worth the time you are dedicating to them? They should ideally make your toes curl with pleasure every time you look at them. If you can considerately control the urge to splurge you will be only allowing stuff into your home that you truly desire or truly need.
Sometimes acquiring stuff is all about the chase – not even about the stuff. People run around in never ending circles and sales to buy various goods which almost inevitably ends up in the cupboards gathering dust.
When you have this clutter all over the place it hinders you, it stops the free flow of air, finance, clear thoughts and decisive ideas. You have to keep pushing things over to one side to find the things that you actually want. You have to furrow through drawers to find the things you need. It’s time wasting, congestive, money wasting, life wasting and unnecessarily complicated.
Why not just cut out the middle man?
A Simple Nest Idea
I adore things that make life sweet and simple with not too much fanfare and over-hype. This simple little item on your desk does just that. It serves as a place to store USB’s or keys, but it also has a little hidden pull out drawer or cradle where you can store a tablet, e reader or your I phone for easy comfortable use.
As you can see in the picture above you can store it semi flat on a non-slip rubber frame that keeps it in place, or it can be positioned in the slider drawer at a sharper angle.
It has a choice of delicious colours to blend in and not distract from your work or workspace.
Simple.
Useful.
Clever.
Decluttering Tips For Simpler Living
Tip: Start small!
If you are the sort of person who does not have staying power or much discipline, don’t overwhelm yourself when it comes to clearing out and decluttering.
Start small.
The secret to decluttering and simplifying is that it never actually ends as such. You will need to keep your new space clean and clutter free with minor tweaks here and there all the time. So ease yourself into the new habit of doing it.
Choose one area of focus to start with: your desk, a cupboard, the guest room, your computer. Most folks’ homes are full of stuff from way back. Clutter accumulated over decades. For most of us it would be an overwhelming challenge to try and get rid of everything at once. So put it in the schedule just to first tackle chosen Area No.1.
Little steps
Little steps work well psychologically because you can see immediate results in that one chosen area straight away. Also the rest of the house will be noticeably mismatched to your first chosen area. If that bugs you enough you will hopefully be compelled to continue sooner than later to get the rest of your spaces to match up!
